AI and Industrial Energy Transition: J4ENERGY closes a €1 million round

Milan, 6 May 2024 J4ENERGY, a Climate Tech company in the energy sector, today celebrates a major milestone with the completion of its first capital increase, raising over 1 million euros. The round was led by RoboIT, the National Technology Transfer Centre for Robotics and Industrial Automation, launched by CDP Venture Capital SGR and Pariter Partners, an Italian player active in tech-transfer investments in the deep-tech area. Also participating in the round were Tech4Planet, the National Technology Transfer Hub for Environmental Sustainability, and Pariter Robotics, an investment vehicle specialising in robotics promoted by Pariter Partners.

J4ENERGY

J4ENERGY is a Digital Energy Platform capable of reducing costs and emissions, as already demonstrated in several industrial facilities, with an average reduction of more than 50%. This is made possible by the "Energy Co-Pilot" technology, an AI tool that creates a digital model (Digital Twin) of the energy system and makes it easier and faster to assess all possible actions – both investment in technologies and day-to-day energy management in the company – even with limited data.

A solution for the Energy Efficiency Gap

The Energy Efficiency Gap is a paradox that limits the energy transition and the adoption of market-ready technologies despite their economic benefits. The Energy Co-Pilot was developed to overcome the informational and financial barriers (e.g. poor data quality, limited dedicated resources and low visibility of available technological solutions) that are the main cause of this paradox.

"On behalf of the entire J4ENERGY team, we want to express our gratitude to the investors who believed in our project. The experience and contribution of CDP Venture Capital and Pariter Partners will be essential in achieving our goal of accelerating the industrial sector's energy transition." said Filippo Lazzarin, Co-founder and CEO of J4ENERGY.

The Energy Co-Pilot technology

Certified by the Solar Impulse Foundation, this solution combines a dynamic library of thousands of technologies with proprietary Artificial Intelligence and Physics-Based Optimisation models, embodying the core of J4ENERGY’s innovative approach. Like a "digital doctor" for energy, the Energy Co-Pilot tests thousands of different combinations of treatments (i.e. energy technologies) on a "digital patient" (i.e. the company's energy system), adjusting the doses each day to deliver the best possible results.

Not just technology: as companies strive to turn their decarbonisation commitments into action, J4ENERGY's method helps accelerate decision-making processes through a full DEaaS (Decarbonisation as a Service) model, overcoming the financial barriers to investment and delivering savings from day one

Funding

The funds raised will be used to further develop the AI technology behind the Energy Co-Pilot and to drive growth by expanding the team, enabling more companies to complete their energy transition quickly. A key focus of the startup’s R&D is on applications for hard-to-abate emissions such as high-temperature industrial heat, including heat pumps up to 200°C, thermal storage, syngas and cooling technologies.

“J4ENERGY is a start-up that, by combining excellent research with industrial experience, has had the insight to offer companies an automated platform for optimising energy consumption” commented Claudia Pingue, Senior Partner and Head of the Technology Transfer Fund at CDP Venture Capital, “This is a need that companies often struggle to meet, and J4ENERGY’s solution – combining AI with a set of thousands of alternative energy technologies – helps reduce emissions from fossil fuel use while ensuring economic sustainability”.

“The evolution of energy technologies and the reduction of risks associated with fossil fuels have become crucial to reconciling environmental protection with companies’ economic and financial sustainability,” said Valentina Franchini, Managing Director of Pariter Partners, “The technological solution offered by J4ENERGY has the potential to meet this need.”
