Tech4Planet

Tech4Planet is CDP’s second National Technology Transfer Hub. It was created to facilitate market access and the growth of new companies conceived within the research laboratories dedicated to environmental sustainability, particularly in the energytech, circular economy, sustainable manufacturing, smart mobility and water management sectors.

With a total investment of up to 55 million euros allocated by the Technology Transfer Fund of CDP Venture Capital Sgr, the Tech4Planet Hub was created in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano and with the involvement of Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Bari.

Part of the overall investment will also be dedicated to supporting the launch of new Venture Capital Funds specialised in Environmental Sustainability sectors, which will continue to finance the most promising start-ups. This investment strategy allows, on the one hand, the increase of the technological and business maturity of the inventions produced by research and, on the other hand, the strengthening of the Venture Capital system specialised in strategic frontier technologies for our country.

The Tech4Planet Hub will involve important industrial players operating in the sector and will be distributed across Italy through the Politecnico di Milano, Torino and Bari laboratories, which will help search for projects with a high market impact and with a catalytic effect for the regions of Southern Italy.

The researchers involved will benefit from financial resources and specialist skills for the implementation of technical and business feasibility studies, thanks to the involvement of their respective incubators: PoliHub, I3P and the burgeoning incubator of the Politecnico di Bari.

The entrepreneurial acceleration phase for the transfer of inventions to the market will then be carried out at the Gasometer Innovation District of Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with PoliHub and specialised international partners, and will also be open to the research projects of the entire network of Italian universities and research centres.

Fondazione Politecnico di Milano is among the co-investors of the Tech4Planet Hub and important agreements are being finalised with leading companies in the sector and institutional entities that will supplement the 55-million-euro investment being allocated by CDP Venture Capital, with a potential total leverage estimated to be over 130 million euros over four years for the creation and development of over 60 new companies.
